The Vice, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
“The House”, 2017
“Some cellar wine for a special occasion, others enjoy it with no justification. Our Signature House Cabernet Sauvignon was sustainably crafted to make every day, a very special occasion”.
A wild vintage! The year began with abundant rainfall following a historic five years of drought. Three heat waves during summer led us to harvest much earlier than usual; but fortunately, it spared us from the smoke taint of the nearby wildfires that ravaged the region starting October 8th.
-99% Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from a USDA Certified Organic Mount Veeder single vineyard. At 1050 ft of elevation, the vineyard is divided into blocks facing every point on the compass. With moderate temperatures than most of Napa, Cabernet Sauvignon slowly ripens in this vineyard and develops a high skin to flesh ration; resulting in richly concentrated wines of great complexity and firm tannins.
-1% Merlot was sourced from a Certified Organic Carneros Single vineyard. This vineyard is located north of Carneros, on the foothills of Mount Veeder.
“The House” Cabernet Sauvignon Batch #18 was crafted with minimal interference in both the vineyards and the cellar. Traditional winemaking includes extended skin maceration, aerative pump overs and nearly 2 years of French Oak aging.
On the nose, the power and tenacity of the aromas are unmistakably new world character, but when tasted, this wine is the ultimate expression of a big Napa Cab.
Plush core of concreted flavors, massive and well-structured tannins coat your entire palette with a satiny mouthfeel. The flavor spectrum is wide from start to the end of its very long finish, ranging from black fruit, dried violet, mocha, black tea and cigar.
